Dell has launched the new Latitude ST, extending its range of Tablet PC . The company aims to customize the Tablet to the specific needs of the business or end-user with certified applications and professional services. This ensures a computer secure environment, using Flexible Dell data protection and trusted platform module. For example, the device is certified for use in Dell connected classroom solution for students, while to make it useful for health professionals is certified for electronic medical records and the company mobile clinical computing solutions. On the hardware front, the Tablet offers a 10.1 "capacitive multi-touch screen and is powered by a processor GHz Intel Atom Z670 1.5 with 2 GB of RAM and SSD of 32 GB (expandable to 64 \ 128 GB)." A 5.0 MP rear 720 p camera with 3 G and Wi-Fi connectivity allows Skype videoconferencing, although we have not found how can do with a camera facing off the screen. The Tablet comes with a pencil to write, TV connectivity, share photos, printing network and optional docking station. It runs on Microsoft Windows 7 and claims to have a battery life of up to 6 hours with 4-cell battery. Dell Latitude ST is available for Rs 36,000 (more applicable taxes), with a 1 year warranty on the following working day. You can expand the memory to 3 GB paying 3000 Rs (more tax) additional while the docking station can be purchased separately for Rs 8000.
When asked, a spokesman told us that "there is a commitment in the compatibility with Win 8 [for Latitude ST] in the future." Compatibility of Windows 8 reported earlier, during the time when Dell announced the Tablet... so expect an update of Windows 8 for this Tablet PC when Windows 8 arrives at sale shelving retail, although we are not sure if the update will be free of charge.
