Late last year, we reported that the iPad would be receiving a version of Microsoft Office. Sources now claim that the app will soon be submitted to Apple for approval.

The team down at The Daily was able to get a hands-on with the app and was able to come away with a few things. According to their reports, the user interface is similar to the OneNote app, yet has hints of Metro, the UI found on the upcoming Windows 8 operating system. Also, Word, Excel and Powerpoint files can be created and edited locally and online.

There is no rumored release date for the app, but sources say the design team has wrapped up the project, signifying that Microsoft Office for iPad could be released in the coming weeks.
