Miniaturisation des mémoires flash : bientôt 128Go dans votre tablette ?

Manufacturing processes are also evolving to chip-memory. Here is the flash memory which will rise next year to 20nm and same 15nm for the end of 2012. These advances will allow denser and more efficient for all mobile machines, but for the DSS, memories that could more directly threaten the hard drives in the near future.

Moore law, when you would like us...

Flash memory chips were very close manufacturing processes of those microprocessors. As they are simple circuits, they are sometimes even before these advances in terms of fineness of engraving. The year 2012 will see the transition from 25nm to 20nm for mass production. Intel and Micron have presented a 128 GB or 16 GB chip engraved in 20nm. By aligning 8 of these chips, are equipped with 128 GB of memory devices that are hand carried. In the immediate future, they are 64 Gigabit chips which will be marketed. Similarly, Samsung has its own technology in 19nm which promises the less impressive performance. Samsung holding 40% of the lucrative market of flash memory, there best interest to stay in the race.

Hynix wants to go even further, the firm having presented a chip in 15nm. Finally, it is probably the 15nm because this has not been confirmed and is not the name: "middle 1 X - nm", which will specify anything. It would seem that on a case at best, the 19nm of Samsung, otherwise the announcement would have probably not taken place. The production of these submissions will not begin before the end of 2012 because much of the technical problems to mass production.

An SSD, it is still almost €100 for... 64 GB!

These chips therefore promise greater capacity, contained energy and flows up to provides/s. Good news for the future phones and tablets, but for the future of the DSS also more generally. Intended to replace the hard drives with their extremely reduced access time, they now suffer from prohibitive tariffs from the good old magnetic disks. However, if the hard drives shortage caused by the floods in Thailand could curb this trend, 20nm flash memory may drive the nail by dividing the price of the GB on SSD. If the magnetic disk market is not yet in danger, he could become the 2 or 3 years, while Intel begins to test the 14nm...
