Hardware and looks

The Acer Iconia tab A500 has a touch screen of 10.1 inches offering a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

On the front you will also see a camera of 2 megapixel camera for video calls. However, in the front you will not find any physical buttons.

The home buttons and subsequent normal of any Android device are replaced by virtual buttons on the screen. You can see the buttons in the lower left corner of the screen.

The advantage of this position is that if you shuffle orientation between vertical and horizontal, the buttons are always on the lower left side of the screen.

There is another button in the lower left corner that gives access to the recently used applications.

The back of the Tablet will be a 5 megapixel camera. The quality of construction of A500 gives a cheap feeling because they have used mainly plastic.

There is a key orientation lock and key for adjustment of volume in the upper edge of the Tablet. The device also has a Micro SD card slot, SIM card slot, port micro-USB and micro-HDMI port.

In the upper part of A500 is a headphones socket. The Tablet PC is 13.3 mm thick and weighs 765 g. This means that their 164 g heavier than the iPad 2. The A500 runs on the Tegra 2 processor and has 1 GB of RAM.

Screen and camera

The 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 TFT LCD of A500 is a visual delight. Another plus point of the screen is your angle of vision.

You can place the Tablet at any angle and still very good readability. Although readability significantly reduces under Sun, makes conditions fairly well covered.

The 5 megapixel rear camera takes photos cute under a bright sky and front camera is simply OK. But the main problem is that cameras lose focus if they attempt to capture anything outside it and produces blurred images. Despite 720 p HD video capture capability, the captured video quality is not good at all.

Software and Performance

Iconia tab A500 Acer runs on Android 3.0, an OS specially customized for the Tablet PCs and certainly works like a breeze.

A500 has a great browser with Flash support. You can open multiple tabs and multi-tasking. The on-screen keyboard honeycomb is a delight. It supports multi-touch, can touch you type.

Also can hold the SHIFT key or number to get quick access to certain characters. The Gmail client, player music, calendar, photos, chat and maps application browser works brilliantly.

There are not so many applications in the Android Market for Honeycomb devices and Google should examine this issue as common Android apps can not use space of the screen of the Tablet PCs. The Tablet PC runs on couple of stacks of 3260mAh and offers almost 7 hours of battery life.

Final verdict

The overall performance of the Iconia tab A500 is good. But there are also some negative points. It is a very heavy Tablet PC, battery life is poor and in comparison with some s Tabletthat its price is high-bit.

While ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is priced at $400 with almost the same facilities, A500 is priced at $450.
