Asus Eee Pad Slider - Productivity in a Tablet

Bookmark and Share

In a very crowded 10-inch tablet world, where many strong, fast and reliable products fight for topping the customers' needs, it is very difficult for a new product to make an impact. However, if there is a device that can do it that is surely the Asus Eee Pad Slider, a slate that is preparing for its official release and that comes with some innovative and interesting features and specifications.

Design and display

While the Slider features a 10-inch display as other many tablets right now, Asus has come up with a whole new design concept. The Eee Pad Slider features a slide-out keyboard that makes the gadget more of tablet- netbook hybrid than a single slate.

This comes with both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, the Slider is highly functional and perfect for those of you who write for a living or who want an easy to carry and affordable netbook-looking device. On the other hand, the tablet is quite bulky and heavy compared to the iPad 2 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, for example.

In terms of display, the Slider holds the comparison with almost any other tablet right now. The 10.1-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen, similar to the one featured by the Asus Transformer, offers great brightness, good colors and beautiful contrast.

Performance and software

In terms of performance, the Slider is more than decent and can again compare itself with any other 10-inch tablet on the market. It is powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 dual - core mobile processor and it features 1 GB of RAM memory. The 5 Mp rear-facing camera and the 1.3 MP front-facing camera are not great, but then again all tablets have problems in this area.

The Slider will be operate on the 3.1 Android Honeycomb and will have access to Android Market, which means loads of apps and very snappy performance overall.

Connectivity, features and pricing

As we have already told you, the Slider is a very functional piece of equipment, and this is not only due to its keyboard. ASUS's new tablet also comes with WiFi and Bluetooth compatibility, as well as HDMI and USB ports.

The Slider also features an accelerometer, g-sensor, light sensor and gyroscope. Furthermore, the tablet will probably be available in the near future with 3 G connectivity, which will be the passenger on the cake.

In terms of pricing, the Slider, which is not yet available for sale, is set to cost around 550 bucks (the Wi-Fi 32 GB version). While this is not the most competitive price on the 10-inch tablet market, you get what you pay for and more!

Wrap-up

An original and new design concept, high functionality and versatility, loads of features, good software and high performance level. All in all, the Asus Eee Pad Slider will probably hit the tablet market with a bang and will attract large audiences.

It is not the iPad 2, but it is pretty much as close as an 10-inch Android-based tablet has ever got to Apple's product. If you are willing to close your eyes on the whole weight and dimensions problem, this will probably be the perfect gadget for you! Especially if you need a tablet for more than browsing and watching movies, tablet that can help your with your daily tasks.
