The Acer Iconia Tab A501 is one of the members of the Acer Iconia, which is a series of tablet PC manufactured by the established computer manufacturer, Acer. Like the A500, this amazing mobile gadget is also equipped with two cameras: a 2 MP front-facing camera and a 5 MP rear-facing camera complete with Auto Focus feature and LED flash. This tablet is also armed with a Dual-Core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, ULP GeForce GPU, Tegra 2 T20 chipset, and 1 GB DDR 2 memory; making this tablet as fast as its predecessor the A500.
If entertainment is your main concern, you can make use this tablet for gaming as well as content viewing. Unfortunately, the A501 tablet lacks FM radio capability. Another drawback of this tablet is the lack of GPS feature. However, in the social networking department, this gadget will not disappoint you. The Acer Iconia Tab A501 has a cool feature called the SNS, which stands for Social Networking Services, that allows for quick access to your favorite social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
You can connect to the internet anytime, anywhere, thanks to the tablet's dual 2G and 3G connectivity. The 2G option covers the GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 bands, while the 3G option covers the HSDPA 900 / 2100 bands. The 3G option also supports up to 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA 3G connection. This means that the Acer Iconia Tab A501 supports both EDGE as well as GPRS networks. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot WLAN, 2.1 with A2DP, EDR Bluetooth connectivity, micro USB v2.0 port, and USB v2.0. The tablet, however, is not equipped with an infrared port.
Just like the other Iconia tablets, the Acer Iconia A501 is equipped with the Android 3.0 Honeycomb mobile platform, and is upgradable to Android 3.2. This gadget supports audio content in MP3, WAV, WMA, and eAAC+ formats, as well as video content in XviD, MP4, H.264, and H.263 formats.
The tablet also includes integrated apps such as Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk, Picasa Image Viewer, and YouTube. The inclusion of document viewers in this tablet makes it possible for the user to view MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and PDF documents.
Last but not least, the tablet comes with a 3260 mAh Li-Po battery which is capable of 8 hours of continuous use. The Acer Iconia A501 has not yet been released, but it is available for pre-order at major online retailers.
