Windows 8 Intel Tablet PCs Won't Come Cheap

Windows 8Customers may not be pleased with the reports indicating that manufacturers might price Intel-based Windows tablet PCs as high as $599 to $899 when the tablets ship later this year. Digitimes is reporting that Windows and Intel are unwilling to drop their related hardware and software quotes. With competition from ARM-based Android tablets and the Apple iPad, Microsoft could have an uphill climb in pushing Windows 8 tablet devices.

In addition, if Microsoft and Intel keep their prices high, manufactuers could look at ARM-chip makers such as NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Texas Instrument’s to reduce the costs of their respective Windows 8 tablets.

With plenty of competition in 2012 for the tablet market, customers will have a variety of products from which to choose. But the question still remains: Will these customers pay a premium for a Windows tablet?
