RIM Working on New BlackBerry PlayBooks?

RIM could be working on two new BlackBerry PlayBook models for 2012: a 7-inch 3G model and 10-inch LTE PlayBook.

Both new devices will undoubtedly run PlayBook OS 2.0, which will bring native email, calendar and contacts clients, along with an Android app player. As we saw at CES 2012, the new PlayBook operating system will deeply integrate social media info and the email app will feature a rich text editor. The team at TabletPCReview was impressed by the sorely-needed update, and look forward to testing it further when it launches.

The PlayBooks should also see an update to BlackBerry 10, RIM's new QNX-based operating system. RIM reps confirmed to TabletPCReview that the original PlayBook will also receive the update.

The rumors indicate a February launch date for the new PlayBooks, which aligns with the PlayBook 2.0 OS OTA update time frame. Last year at this time, RIM was working on both LTE and WiMAX versions of the PlayBook, in addition to a 10-inch version. All were apparently scrapped, or at least delayed in the case of the LTE and 10-inch PlayBook, following poor PlayBook sales.
